Every American shares ownership of a remarkable system of public lands that covers nearly one third of our country, or about 618 million acres. Tweet this.
These lands are managed for us by the federal government as National Parks, Forests, Wildlife Refuges, Historic Sites, Monuments and other designations reflecting the special character of each place.
